What you need to know

Georgia's Organic Law sets special rules for ownership of agricultural land. The cases it provides for include inheritance by a foreign national and, for a Georgian legal entity with a foreign dominant partner, a government decision based on an investment plan.

What to do in practice

Before a transaction, check the plot's designated use, the buyer's ownership structure and the applicable legal basis. Do not assume that the rules for buying an apartment also apply to agricultural land. Changing a plot's designated use requires a separate assessment and should not be treated as guaranteed.

General information. The rules and documents applicable to your particular case require an individual assessment.
