What you need to know
A new procedure for obtaining the right to work has applied since 1 March 2026. It covers foreign employees and self-employed foreigners who fall within the law's scope. The current legislation provides exemptions, including for certain types of activity. Citizenship or ownership of a company alone therefore does not determine the answer.
What to do in practice
Before starting work, establish your status, the nature of your activity, whether an exemption applies and how to apply. Procedures differ for employees and self-employed people. Check your basis for staying in Georgia and any transitional provisions separately.
